Spring 2019 BRWIA Internships

​ Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) and websites (Weebly, Squarespace)
  • Interest in High Country food systems or sustainable agriculture
  • Ability to work independently with self-guided initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and well organized
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to complete tasks and respond to email communications in a timely manner
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse populations and speaking in front of groups of people
  • Working knowledge of Google Drive, Mailchimp, and Canva​

Internships Offered

Communications Internship


​Internship Responsibilities:
​Work closely with BRWIA's Executive Director and Outreach Team to support:

  • Communication planning and execution
  • Refine and develop online presence (website, social media)
  • Help with event promotion and fundraising events
  • Support monthly newsletters for each program
  • Support data tracking, filing, finances, and press releases​​

Winter Market Internship


Internship Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the BRWIA staff to support the Boone Winter Farmers' Market program.
  • Provide assistance at the Market Managers' booth, including processing SNAP/EBT and Double Up Food Bucks transactions, helping to plan, publicize, and facilitate weekly special events including musical performances and cooking demos, and collecting/analyzing market data.
  • Interact directly with local food producers/farmers as well as market patrons.
  • Help with creating content for newsletter, social media posts, and printed promotional material.
  • Complete routine tasks such as set-up/break-down of the Market space.
  • Other duties pertaining to market program as needed by BRWIA Staff.​

Time commitment:
8-15 hours a week (must be available on 1st and 3rd Saturdays 7:30 am to 1:30 pm Dec.-April) Schedule may vary depending on interest and duration of the internship. Ideal candidate would be available mid-November through the end of April.

Producer Promotions Internship

​
​Internship Responsibilities:
  • Schedule daily social media posts highlighting featured producers and other Food Hub related info  
  • Assist with the Food Hub's weekly newsletter
  • Create graphics in canva for social media and newsletter usage 
  • Data collection and analysis related to social media
  • Other communications tasks as assigned by BRWIA staff

This internship requires about 5-10 hours of commitment a week. Most of the work can be scheduled a head of time and done from home. 

Food Hub Internship 


​​​Internship Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the BRWIA staff to support the High Country Food Hub​
  • Interact directly with local food producers/farmers as well as Market patrons.
  • Help with organizing orders at the Food Hub for pickup day ( must be available from 2:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesdays and/or for at least 4 hours between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm on Wednesdays)
  • Help with creating content for the newsletter and social media posts and general day-to-day upkeep at the Food Hub.
  • Other duties pertaining to market programs as needed by BRWIA Staff

Time Commitment:
5-20 hours a week (must be available during at least one of the time slots listed above), depending on interest, program, and duration of the internship.

 Educational Programs Internship

​
​Internship Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the BRWIA staff to support oen or more of the following programs: Community of Gardens, CRAFT, Seed Library, Lettuce Learn
  • Publicize educational events to the general community through social media posts and flier creation
  • Help with developing educational resources
  • Assistance with general tasks in the BRWIA office as needed​ and other duties pertaining to educational programs as needed by BRWIA staff​​

Fundraising Internship

Goal: To raise funding for the sustainment and growth of the Double Up Food Bucks program administered by the Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture.

​​Internship Responsibilities:
  • Develop creative fundraising plans and execute them
  • Write compelling press releases, social media posts, and emails for fundraising events
